Birch tapping

In Nature, Photography, Video by Felicity Martin

I have a developing interest in shooting video, so when my partner Andrew asked me to come and record a new activity he was doing at work I leapt at the chance to document it. Especially as it was a fine day and a lovely place.

This is the result of my efforts, which I edited later the same day. It’s a 2.5-minute video, uploaded to Vimeo. If you want to comment (feedback would be welcome) please click through to the Vimeo page to comment there.

Tapping birch sap produces a very refreshing, silky smooth, slightly sweet water that is packed with minerals and other good stuff. This year is a bit of an experiment, but Andrew is interested in developing a marketable product next year. Lots of work to do before then!
