My home is set in such a diverse, three-dimensional landscape that in five years of living here I have yet to explore all corners or it. One of my favourite activities is to “rake aboot” previously unvisited places to discover what plants and animals are present, and to see the landscape from a different perspective.
This week I went wandering around the River Earn National scenic Area and found myself on a “new” knoll, where conifers were not long ago clear felled. I was delighted to find a fresh viewpoint over Strathearn, with Aberuchill estate on one side and Dunira estate on the other.
I may return early one misty morning to photograph the sun rising over the strath.
