I have a new feature in the latest issue of Outdoor Enthusiast magazine about getting really physical on Jersey, a Channel Island that normally has a genteel image. My experience was much more fun than I expected, and full of raw energy, just like the animals in Durrell Wildlife Park where we were staying in their safari-style wildlife camp.
In just one long weekend I –
- battled the waves to scramble along cliffs and swim through arches while coasteering
- cycled green lanes and tracks through woods and fields to a stone age dolmen
- sea kayaked from a glorious beach past stacks towards a lighthouse point
- rode a fast RIB to Les Ecrehous, other worldly offshore reefs capped by tiny whitewashed huts
- walked clifftop paths with stupendous views through almost Mediterranean-style heathland
The activities revealed what a scenic, hospitable and richly historic island Jersey is. We were very well looked after by
